More than just a tool

The purpose and magic of wick scissors

A simple tool with a long history, born of necessity – and now a small act of nurturing – with profound effect.

For a long candle life

The wick trimmer is part of proper candle care. It effortlessly trims the wick to the correct length – about 5 millimeters. The flame remains steady. The candle burns evenly and longer.

It is easily distinguished from ordinary household scissors: Its shape is narrower, the blades are angled and often slightly recessed. This allows you to reach the wick even when the candle has burned down low.

When trimming, the small piece of wick – the snip – stays on the blades instead of falling into the melted wax. This prevents residue and an unsteady flame.

A tool with history

Wick trimmers and snuffers have been with us for centuries, even mentioned in the Old Testament. In the early 19th century, candles were made from animal fat. They produced soot, dripped, and burned unevenly, especially when the wick grew too long.

At princely courts, servants were busy tending to hundreds of candles. In theaters and churches, 'Lichtputzer' took on this task, regularly shortening the wicks. This was then called 'snuffing'.

Paraffin made candles more durable and wicks easier to maintain. Still, a trimmed wick burns more evenly. The flame stays steady. The candle lasts longer.

A simple action becomes a ritual

A wick trimmer is more than just a tool. It embodies small acts of mindfulness – a slower pace, a conscious gesture that creates a moment of calm. A small ritual. Effortless. Like a cup of tea.

Your reminder that moments of well-being sometimes unfold when you simply pause.
