The diverse aromatherapy effects of lavender

Lavender oil plays a very special role in aromatherapy. It is known and loved for its balancing and relaxing effect. It helps to restore inner balance and reduce stress. The calming fragrance promotes a feeling of peace and serenity.

And even if it may sound contradictory at first glance, lavender oil has a great balancing power due to its variety of ingredients and helps to bring extremes back into balance. It can therefore also have a stimulating and uplifting effect when you are exhausted.

Lavender oil for restful sleep

Lavender oil has a very positive influence on our sleep. It is an excellent natural sleep aid that is known for its sleep-inducing and calming effects. If you put a few drops on your pillow or in a diffuser in the evening, you can create a calm and soothing atmosphere that is ideal for falling asleep and for a deep and restful sleep. In addition, the oil helps to reduce stress and tension, which is often the cause of insomnia.

Our fragrance blend Mußezeit supports the effect of lavender with the stress-reducing properties of juniper.

Use the oil in the aroma diffuser, spray your pillow or envelop your room in the long-lasting, pleasant scent of the fragrance sticks.

Origin of lavender

Lavender loves sunlight and lime-rich soil. Originally from the Mediterranean region, it is now mainly native to France, Bulgaria and England. The ideal climate for natural, healthy growth is at high altitudes (600 - 1500 m). The combination of cold nights and hot days makes the plant particularly hardy and its ingredients particularly valuable and complex.

How lavender essential oil is extracted

Lavender is harvested when in full bloom and processed fresh. The pure natural essential oil is extracted by steam distillation. This extracts its valuable ingredients from the flower tips. Short transportation routes and fast processing are particularly important as they guarantee the high quality of the lavender oil obtained. Every drop of pure oil is precious, because: Around 100 to 150 kg of lavender flowers are processed to make 1 kg of lavender oil.

Good to know

The different types of lavender

There are over 30 different types of lavender in nature. They all enrich the landscape with their diversity. In aromatherapy, a distinction is made between the "real" lavender oil fine or extra (Lavandula angustifolia) described here and lavandin oil, spikenard lavender oil and crested lavender oil. All these oils have a lot in common, but also very different modes of action.

About the cultural significance of lavender

Even in ancient times, people appreciated lavender flowers. They used it as a balancing bath additive. Incidentally, the name lavender comes from the Latin word "lavare", meaning to wash. The plant has always been very popular and is used in naturopathy.

The ecological importance of lavender fields

The magnificent lavender fields play a central role on the ecological stage of our planet. They are a real magnet for bees and other pollinating insects and thus contribute to a diverse and colorful animal world.
